The Thrill of SEE Results: A Journey Through Time

Congratulations to all the SEE graduates! Every time this day comes around, I time-travel, not to a website or an app, but to a muddy road, a worn-out RX-100, and a newspaper we never cared for, except on one day of the year.

When Result Day Meant A Long Drive and a Longer Wait

Back then, it was SLC, not SEE. Legends used to call it ‘The Iron Gate’. The preparation was legendary, not just because it was hard, but because the process was sacred. No calculators were allowed. No geometry boxes, no folded sleeves. You were searched like you were entering a secret mission. And still, we wore that pressure like a badge.

But the real adventure began after the exam, the result day.

I still remember, my dad was more excited than I was. We jumped on our RX-100 and rode 13 km of muddy, off-road chaos in the rain just to find Gorakhapatra. The newspaper nobody read, until this one day, when it suddenly sold in black.

Couldn’t find it? No worries. Just find a crowd playing the “SLC Bingo”, shouting roll numbers in a circle.

I gave my number. The guy checked. Paused. And said: “Second Division!”

That was it. No mark sheets, no GPA, no subject details. Just pass, division, or fail. We paid 10 rupees for that info. The paper was maybe 2 rupees, but the service? Priceless. (Petrol was 40/L at the time, just to give you the value of 10).

When Mark Sheets Came, And You Made Plans

A couple of months later, we’d finally get our marks. But until then, another tradition took over, front pages of major newspapers showing the Board First student with a full profile, the overall pass rate, and district stats. It was national news.

And to find out how your friends did? Walk to their house. Ask. That was our social media update. 😄

That’s how you also started deciding your future, “Science? Commerce? Kathmandu jau ki yahi?”

Today, Everything’s Changed, Yet, Nothing Has

From Gorakhapatra to telephone lines, then SMS codes, websites, NTC portals, official apps, and now even the Payment Gateway App, SEE results have gone fully digital. Instant results. Full mark sheets. Zero waiting.

And yet, that thrill? That anxiety? That emotional wave?

Still the same.

Every era has its own charm. Ours had potholes and newspapers. Today has apps and notifications. Neither is easier. Neither is better. Both are beautiful.

To everyone who got their results, Congratulations! Again And to everyone remembering their own journey, feel free to share it. This is one memory we all earned. How different is yours?
