The Free Ride to “CM”: My Secret Election Story
Falgun 21 is near. Everywhere in Nepal, social media is full of election posts. But this environment reminds me of my old school days in Bahundangi. Back then, election was not on mobile; it was on the dusty roads. I never cared about which party is good or bad. I only cared about their buses and trucks.
The “Reserved Bus” vs. The “Free Bus”
In our village, people are crazy for movies. Some groups used to collect their money and reserve a full bus just to go to the city for a “Night Show” (6 PM to 9 PM). They used to sit comfortably and go.
But I was playing a smarter game. Why spend money for a seat when the political parties are giving free rides?
The Logic of the “Free Traveler”
During election time, parties used to send many buses to Bahundangi to bring “supporters” for big programs in Dhulabari or Birtamode. I was the “Number 1” supporter of every party, as long as their bus was leaving at the right time! I would carry any flag just to get a space in the bus.
I was not supporting their big promises; I was supporting my hobby. My target was the 12:00 PM show. The timing was perfect: the bus reaches the city before 12, the movie ends before 3:00 PM, and exactly at that time, the speeches at the rally also finish. So, I could easily find the same free bus to come back home.
Calling for “Alfred”
I remember one trip where I watched “Bhagya Debata.” Mithun Da was playing a hero named Alfred. Movie Name could be wrong but the story is not.
There was a Bell they used to ring to call him for help. It was like the Batman signal. In that dark hall, when the bell rang and Alfred started the fight, I felt so happy. Outside, the politicians were shouting about the future, but inside, I was watching Mithun Da giving “spot justice.”
Today’s Story
Today, things are different. The craziness on the streets is less. Everything is on Facebook and TikTok. You don’t see many people sitting on the roof of the bus anymore. Politicians used to visit places in Mahindra & Mahindra ‘s Jeep?
As we go for the Falgun 21 vote, everyone is choosing their party. In my photo, you see a boy holding the Nepal flag, because whatever happens, Nepal comes first.
But if you look closely at that boy from the village, you will see my true story. While everyone is voting for a leader, I already gave my vote long ago in a small cinema hall in Birtamode. I don’t follow any party’s rules; I only follow the Movie Time.
Leaders come and go, but the magic of Mithun Da and that “Alfred” bell is forever.
