OMG 2 and things I felt
After 5 ass-off working days finally, the day comes that we all wait for called, the weekend. The not so good thing about the weekend is that it only lasts for 2 days. Now, the big question is how do you want to spend these 2 days? How do you maximize your fun so that you can work the next 5 days? Life goes on the same circle I guess, for some or should I say at least for me, for now (Ufffff.. the amount of politically correct I need to be here is just testing my knowledge of vocabulary). Movies and good food are my favourite kind of weekend, that is why, one of my instagram handles called foodiemoviegoer. Be it at home or outside, it doesn’t matter those 2 words are synonymous with my weekend.
Last week there were 2 Hindi movies Gadar 2 and OMG 2 released. Movie feat. for moviegoers like me. The second installment of the same titles. I watched both of them on a big screen on released weekend. Usually, I say movies should be entertaining, let the idea of social messages and educating people through movies leave to the education system or life experience. I go to movies to have some quality time, entertaining time. I must enjoy the those 2 to 3hrs of my time. Having said that, OMG 2 has taken a path where moviegoers get social messages and entertainment both to the fullest. A must-watch but…,
There were controversies/protest started since the title announcement and when the first poster was released of the movie and nowadays this become normal, I swear. We have become so vulnerable, specially on movies, that we can not accept it as entertainment. OMG 2 is no exception for protestors. I think, what we failed to understand is that the god helped his/her devotee when the person is having a hard time, is the simple thing we can see in the movie. Either we failed to see the god helps his/her devotee or the so called god-men please stop telling us to remember/pray god when we are in trouble in life, the god will help you. Or, we stopped believing that god really helps us in his/her way in difficult times. Or we just need an agenda to be in the spotlight in the name of saving the religion or religious sentiments.
If you have not watched the movie, you can choose not to read this. However, I will try not to spoil much.
The movie address the taboo (at least in our culture), the topic sex, the teen’s curiousity and the insecurities regarding private parts of human body. The certificate given to the movie is ‘A’ because of the subject of the movie. The movie wants to educate the youngsters specially teens and my personal opinion is CBFC India again failed to understand the same and given the ‘A’ certificate, which restricts teens to watch the movie. Irony.
To me, the concept of the movie, god helping devotee in trouble is perfectly showcased because the god is only extending support to devotees rather than the cause itself and here the cause is not illegal or against the religion that we must start the argument or protesting the movie is required. As simple as that.
Let’s talk about the performance. The movie is more of Yami Gautam Dhar and Pankaj Tripathi than Akshay Kumar himself though it was promoted as Akshay’s movie. The trailer cut itself was brilliant and I can understand why would they did not reveal much in the trailer. I liked the performance of Akshay in this version better than previous installment, he did mold himself so perfectly that he looks convincing in the character he played. He appears on the screen just when audience feels the need of him. Pankaj Tripathi shines as usual and Yami delivered one of the finest performances of her career. All other performances of supporting characters make the movie even better.
The Adipurush effect may be, the Censor Board had to cut many scenes and there were additional voice dubbed made which you may notice while watching. I wonder what would be the product if the scenes were not chopped off, what would be the impact of the message it wanted to deliver to audiences? The question remains.
To me, OMG 2 is pure entertainment and the way director chose to tell the story is just brilliant. The buzz it has created and the popularity it is gaining from word of mouth tells the rest. KUCH TO LOG KAHENGE, LOGO KAA KAAM HAI KEHNA.

Beautifully crafted….now I will think about my plans on OMG2.👍🏻👍🏻 keep up the good posts.
Finally after so long.
pankaj tripathi always shines in his role. He is one of the reason i wanted to see this movie.
As always, loved your writing style. By the way, I got it that you are trying your best not to be the spoiler, but I must appreciate the control over your urges not to share the moments like “the Shayari on Yami” or “that laugh by Pankaj wife on court room” ……….. Loved it. 🙂
The thing I loved about both the movie is the message that God (nature) only gives the hint of the solution, it’s us who have to work upon it.
I agree. It’s important for movies like this not to feel too “preachy.” I’m glad the chosen subject worked well with the story, and the comedy fit in nicely too.
Thank you for sharing.
