Mohra and My Memories | Happy Father’s Day

Mohra and My Memories | Happy Father’s Day

Hello, 80’s and 90’s Kid, what do you remember if I say the movie “Mohra”? Well, mine is undoubtedly “Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast”. Gen-Z and Millenials don’t get disheartened if you have no idea what we are talking about, The world is a small place, someday the song may viral on reels or TikTok.

However, this particular page is not about the song anyway so chill. ok?

Let me re-introduce you to the world of Netflix of my era. VHS – Video Home System having the ability to video recording on tape cassette in an analogue form. Times when clouds used to store rain only.

Disclaimer: none of the images are taken by me. I used this because one of the readers visits the page just to check images.

We used to have one VCR (a player for VHS) in the late ’80s and ’90s. The idea was simple, go to the video library choose a movie (VHS) hire it watch it and return it to the library. (Sounds illegal? Yeah!! It was)

Dad. He brought a VHS of Mohra on hire. After dinner, we sat all together and he started playing the Movie. Excited. Oops, something is not right, there is only audio, where is the video?

A generator was on because the VCR used to run only on electricity. We kept trying for hours to get the video on but what an unsuccessful attempts that evening . There was only audio. Devastated.

The VCR did not work at all, dad tried to fix it by taking it to the repair shop but it was like dead. It didn’t work after that. Awful.

After a decade, the VCR became very popular household items. There were several video libraries in the city and lot of options for VHS as well. No worries, if you do not have one you can also hire one from the video library along with VHS. Sadly, that time, at my house, there was no electricity neither was the generator. But, my best friend, my room mate, my college mate and many more… who used to have a video library came up with the idea of converting VCR, which runs on electricity to VCR which can also be run on Battery power. I decided to take that VHS and show the movie, which was long due. “Mohra”.

Mohra is one of the best action movies of our time. One of those movies, which helped Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty to establish as action heroes. The right amount of suspense, great performances and direction and the story justifies the name of the movie, Mohra.

Now, let’s talk about the music.

Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast was the most popular song not only on the radio but in weddings and functions as well. I used to run back to house from tuition so that I reach home before 8:45AM just to listen the song, because exactly at this time All India Radio used to play this song for couple of minutes only. Used to play in that fashion for a week or more as an advertisement or as the reminder that it is running successfully on a theater near you.

The song was remake in the movie “Machine” which was released in 2017. I was more excited to watch the full song rather than the movie. I just love the song.

Tip Tip Barsha PaaniWell, even Akshay used this song again in his movie Sooryavanshi with Katrina this time.

My favourite of the album would be “Ae Kaash Kahin Aisa Hota” sung by Kumar Sanu.

Naa Kajre Ki Dhaar is also one of the finest songs of the album.

The history repeated. After a dinner all of the family members sat together and watched the movie Mohra without any interruption this time. I was happy that I made it possible to watch the movie, all the family members were happy too and Dad was super happy. I felt like I gifted one of the best gifts to dad that evening. The movie still makes me remember those 2 evenings. One when we could not watch and another when we watch together again.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY
